Bird watching IN NORWAY

Both Greylag Goose and Bean Goose have been recorded at Movatnet  -  the latter is a rare species in the area.

Tekstboks: From the shores of the fjord, to the mountain moorlands, the area of Norheimsund offers the visiting birder a range of habitats, and several interesting areas. One of the better is Movatnet. This lake has produced a number of interesting observations through the years, and is always worth checking, while the woodlands at the back hold a good selection of the commoner species. During the winter months part, if not all of Movatnet could be open. Though the selection of species will not be high, such species as Little Grebe and Whooper Swan could be seen. Grey Heron is a characteristic species in the area, while such species as Mallard, Tufted Duck and Common Goldeneye can be seen in varying numbers through most of the year. With the arrival of March, both Eurasian Wigeon and Common Teal can be found, and the first flocks of Northern Lapwing arrive. As spring progresses, Common Snipe, Eurasian Curlew, Common Redshank and Common Sandpiper will increase in numbers, with the later two staying in the area to breed. Other waders that can be seen during spring include Greenshank and Green Sandpiper, while such species as Little Stint and Temminck's Stint are most likely to be seen from August.
As with the wildfowl numbers during the spring, the woodlands at the back of the lake start to liven up. By this time of the year, such resident species as Marsh Tit, Willow Tit, Blue Tit, Great Tit and Eurasian Nuthatch will be checking out potential nesting sites. By April however these species will be well into their breeding season, but this does not stop the Pied Flycatcher trying to take over a nesting hole. This species is a long distance migrant, and one of the first to arrive. Other species like Icterine Warbler, Common Whitethroat and Blackcap follow close behind, and by May the woods are alive with song. At this time of the year let your gaze wonder past the woodlands to the rocky mountain tops, you may be rewarded with Rough-legged Buzzard, or at least Common Raven playing on the wind.
Though not the most abundant habitat, there is some farmland. Once again be on the lookout for species that prefer this type of habitat. Whinchat can be found, and is often seen perched on a post, or the top of a small bush. White Wagtail will be another common species, often running in front of you along the gravel road, snapping insects on the way. Twite, Siskin and Common Redpoll are other species that you may encounter. These are just some of the species that you will find in a relatively small area near Norheimsund.
How To Get There:  To get to Norheimsund follow route 7 from Bergen. The drive should take a little over one hour. Movatnet is situated within walking distance of the town centre along side the main road (route 7). From the end of the lake you will see some buildings, and the road that leads to the woodlands.
